The rat infestation in the sewers is getting out of control again! As such, the city watch is officially releasing a standing contract for any persons willing to help exterminate this problem. For this, there is a reward of
5 COPPER PER RAT TAIL
returned to any local guard post. Do not attempt to submit any tails to a member of the watch on the street, on patrol, or otherwise not within a station. Only specific sewer entrances will be open for access - Information is available at any guard station.
Ways to approach
Rat catching, it’s a classic! It’s also perfect for an early-game downtime activity or even one of the first jobs your party takes on. It’s a classic for a reason and there are a ton of ways you can throw a plot twist into the mix. Try the magical equivalent of radioactive rats and figuring out why they’re like this. How about finding the evil version of the pied piper - a person who’s been leading rats into cities just so that they’ll be hired to get the rats back out? If you want to play the long game, here’s the perfect place to introduce some intrigue where it’s been insinuated the rats have been introduced specifically to bring a plague in and weaken the city.
