March of the Mages
Pinned to the Notice Board
A parchment with an elegantly written title, yet scratched in body reads:
March of the Mages
On All-Spirits night,
We stand on the streets to watch them pass,
Faces that came the same time centuries past,
To Tovsha Moor in a hopeless fight,
Against the vicious Godkiller's might.
But remember, mates,
Not to follow the honored mage,
Lest you be trapped in the Godkiller's Cage,
Dragged through the veil to share their fate,
eternal victim to the Godkiller's hate.
Ways To Approach
The tale is of a group of mages who banded together against a formidable and cruel opponent, named Godkiller for a reason; they threatened to turn the heavens into disarray. It was fine when they took out the bad and even the disliked gods, but once attention turned to the good ones, something had to be done. But how do mere mortals kill something even gods cannot? It seems the answer at the time was to use the thinning of the veil on All-Spirits day to create a pocket in time, a unique prison where the day would loop endlessly.
What happens if your party investigates the phenomenon? True enough to the poem, they could be sucked into the prison and have to find a way to break out. While they're there, they'll have to be careful not to do anything which might undo the spell BUT they may also learn of some long-hidden truths about the Godkiller and even the mages here. Whatever they do could echo out into history too.
