Item: Bladed Belt

Shortsword, Belt - Uncommon - 50-100gp

bladedbelt

At first this seems to be an ordinary leather belt, however, concealed inside is a flexible shortsword blade that snaps straight when drawn.

Drawing the weapon simply takes a free action, just like any other weapon. However, sheathing it requires an action in order to safely bend it around its sheath.

This weapon uses the same statistics as a shortsword. However, when the blade is sheathed it is nearly impossible to detect, requiring a DC20 investigation check to find, or a DC25 perception check to notice it from 10ft or closer.

This is a great item to give to lower levels because it’s a unique item that can’t really be acquired outside of a specialist, but for the most part it’s not really game changing. Yes, one player no longer has to worry about not having a weapon in ‘safe zones’ but when it comes to combat it’s not going to give the DM any headaches by giving the character an unexpected edge (pun intended). Even though it is a unique item I didn’t give it a high price range since a shortsword is only 10 gold and an extra 40 gold to the craftsman seemed fair, depending on your world. Now, if it could be seen as contraband (which is fair considering it could be used to sneak into a party and do untold damage), then it starts to get more pricey hence the price going up to 100 gold.
