A dirty, ink splotched, and messily written-on parchment with water-staining at the bottom announces:
The signs are there! The Old Ones return!
Our ancestors weep as their statues bleed,
truth spills out from lips once sealed,
the sun blazes in black of night,
and the mountain wakes to burn our fields.
Only a few more omens and our time is done,
our reign ends, for the Old Gods have come.
Ways To Approach
Strange happenings have plagued the area of late, to some it's just a bunch of bad luck, but others see the signs; something ominous is on the horizon.
Who are the 'old ones' in your world? What kind of threat to they pose and what is their motivation? Often these types of elder gods conquer for the sake of corruption and domination, but that always seemed a little too two-dimensional for such complex beings for me. In my mind their delight is in creating machinations and watching their seeds grow and devices play out. The end corruption isn't the goal, it's the fun they have along the way.
Take this poster as the beginning of the journey - something to watch out for as their machinations take root, as areas across the land fall under the influence of the old ones and the party must work to foil as many of these as possible.
