A Mid-Winter Warning

PINNED TO THE TAVERN CORK BOARD

A long parchment warns:

Watch Out!

As mid-winter approaches, this is the annual reminder to citizens to lock their doors, seal their windows and cover up any openings such as fireplaces on the long night.

If you are able, leave offerings to the Winter Claw such as baked goods at the door. Let’s ensure this is another year without any kidnappings, and that we can ALL celebrate in the Festival of Renewal the day after.

Any mercenaries willing to join with the local guard on the night to help patrol the streets are more than welcome and for the night will be paid 100 gold each.

Speak to Master Xenric at the guildmaster’s lodge for festival inquiries, or to Captain Irah Gemsword to join the long night’s watch.

WAYS TO APPROACH

Here’s a poster to spread some holiday fear this winter! On the one hand, this could be the work of pesky bandits exploiting an established mythology and extended darkness, but it’s also the perfect opportunity to weave some lore into the area and explore why these disappearances happen on some mid-winters but not all.

You could also do both! Have your party expose some bandits making the most of the long night, however, right at the pinnacle of the fight or reveal to the public, a rift establishes as the full moon shines between a cloven mountain trapping your party and the bandits in a strange demi-plane from which they must escape.

Of course, it could just be a good old-fashioned fear of nothing and an easy way for your heroes to get 100 gold each.
