Follow That Star!

Pinned to the Notice Board

A mostly clean but hastily written sheet of parchment calls out;

Follow That Star!

No doubt you have seen the star that fell from the sky the other night - I am looking to hire an expedition crew to follow its trail and find where it has landed so that we may make use of this precious resource.

Your company will be paid well in gold as well as your choice of armor or weapon from the star metal

Time is of the essence, we set forth from the cartographers’ guild immediately after the first able group’s acceptance.

[Signed S. Crane]

Ways To Approach

Hot of the presses! This poster was written in a hurry and they're expecting a response in a hurry. If your group doesn't decide to go for this quickly, then some other adventuring party is (probably) going to be walking around with some 'star metal' gear in a little bit.

Ultimately your party doesn't HAVE to take up the job, as they may elect to seek out the fallen star on their own in order to make out with all of the metal for more gear (if they can find someone with enough expertise to work with this strange material). The flip side is they'll have more competition, no additional resources, and no financial backing. It's reasonable to assume S. Crane will pay the party at least something even if they're not successful in their quest.

Don't be afraid to go full force with 'journey into the unknown' vibes. This could be an expedition into a jungle followed by dungeons that the star broke deep down into and then awakened a long dead foe by becoming its pseudo heart. In this instance, tailoring the boss battle with space and/or light magic would not only be very thematic but also create a really dynamic encounter. By extension, and as part of this journey to keep the trek interesting, the star could have created tears in the material plane to create an area of strange magics, where more than one plane exists within a certain radius.
