The powers that be have finally seen fit to have a moat made around us. It’s a grand task though, so we’ll need as much help as we can get!

WAYS TO APPROACH
The aid of an adventuring party would go a long way to helping in the creation of this moat, they may even be offered additional incentives if they’re stronger than the average townsperson or are able to aid with magic. In the leadup to this poster it may be good to have a bandit/monster attack the town or city as an example for why a gigantic moat would be a worthwhile investment.
If any of the party do offer their assistance this simple downtime activity could spiced up by the introduction of a thieves’ guild member wanting to create a secret entrance hidden in the moat - They’ll probably do it eventually anyway but the player character’s help would certainly speed up the process.
POSSIBLE REPERCUSSIONS
Unless the party have spells that would significantly speed up the progress of this project, it’s unlikely there would be any repercussions for not helping with this activity. However, if you would like to show a living world and how this simple poster can feed into it, it’s worth considering that any delays in finishing the moat mean more and more chances for bandits or others who wish harm to attack the local populace. If the party live locally they would see an ongoing presence that would have to be addressed one way or another, but if the party only pass through then the area they visit could look very different on their next pass through.
