Days Ripped Apart

Pinned to The notice board

A yellowed and slightly dirtied parchment reads:

Days ripped apart by night.

Each passing day a portal to endless night expands above the continent, with no cause or source of malice yet found.

Know that this is not a cloud of darkness, no trick of the light, or other illusory magic - this is a window, which peers through to an eternal evening, complete with streaks of celestial lights, and distant stars that are not where they should be.

Experts in the arcane and worldly adventurers are being sought to investigate the center of this tear across the sky and do whatever is necessary to reverse and heal this wound. Any individuals able to complete such a feat would be rewarded with titles, land, and a bounty of gold.

If undertaking, seek council directly with High Mage M’rinna for the most current information.

Ways to approach

Looking for a way to dip your toes into spelljammer? This quest poster might just be it! Beyond sending your players off into the stars to battle space pirates, there are several ways you could approach this type of quest while keeping it more grounded. First, think of the types of creatures that would benefit from an eternal night, from vampires to dark elves. Or for higher-level characters, this could be the beginning to an old eldritch god’s entrance to the campaign. Perhaps somebody powerful is ripping a hole through time, and once the tear is big enough the world will slowly be brought back through the ages.

Regardless of which, when something is powerful enough to do this, it’s hard to imagine the goal isn’t world domination, except for the last one.

Possible Repercussions

Ultimately this is a quest that would be near impossible to ignore. Throwing this poster into the game is more of a warning to players of what’s to come - The dark cloud in the distance? As it turns out not a cloud! Ignoring this quest will mean large changes ahead for the world.
