Clear Ruins for Archeologists
Pinned to the Notice Board
A lightly decorated and well-written posting reads:
Archaeological Society In Need of Ruins Cleared
Our excavation has come to a halt after the ruin's defences were accidentally activated, forcing us to be driven out of the now extensively trapped site by guardian statues that have come to life.
Thanks to the expedition’s funder, Baroness Violetta Meiro, we are able to offer a sizable reward to the dungeon delvers who can make the site safe again.
Additionally, a magic relic recovered and identified as the Guantlets of Misgiving is being offered if the group would also be willing to stay on site for an extra week to take care of any new surprises that arise.
Ways To Approach
Most of this is standard fantasy, but the interesting part is that we have the backer of this expedition named and that it's a noble of some importance, so naturally, we assume that there must be a very good reason for wanting this ruin excavated rather than just historical significance. But of course, we left that out so that any GMs can tailor that to their own personal world. For me? There's absolutely a vault down there to an ancient artefact. Technically it is an old family ruin so it would belong to her, but morally should she have the sealed-away item? Hopefully, the other workers can shed some light on the Baroness as a person, the ruins can shed some light on the family’s history and the item’s function. The final decision will come down to the players after running through the gauntlet and whatever information they uncover.
